Sri Sri Anandamayi Ma - Overview

A distinction is sometimes made between religious teachers and philosophical expounders. But this is only a distinction based on emphasis. Similarly sometimes is between sages and saints.  The saint's approach to reality is said to be more emotional, whereas that of the sage is regarded as more intellectual. But this again is a distinction which is not absolute. The devotee and (the knower) one with wisdom are, it is true, distinguished by some people. But the devotion of the genuine devotee is not purely an emotion, having nothing to do with knowledge, nor is the wisdom of the knower the result of intellect without emotional sublimation.

But what does the saints and sages do ? It not the social service, in the conventional sense, that they do. It is service of God in his creatures and manifestations. It is service born of the conviction that the world filled with God. God thus the center of their life. They live, move and have their being in God. God is their one preoccupation. This is borne out  in the life-story of every saints or sage what do may we call them. Even those saints who do not believe in a personal deity do see the same divine reality in every being. It is the love of God or the universal vision of the Supreme Spirit that moves the saints to spend themselves in the service of man and the world. Godly love is so occupies the whole of their heart that there is no room in it for hatred

Divine Personage of Anandamayi Ma

The most exalted spiritual beings are born as simple, humble personages out of view of the world. Such was the case with the bliss filled spiritual being known as Anandamayi Ma. She was born Nirmala Sundari, on April 30th, 1896. in an obscure village in East Bengal (now Bangladesh). It is learned that she was born in her full consciousness.
One of most her quote which is referred widely, describes her personage.

Who is it that loves and who that suffers? He alone stages a play with Himself; who exists save Him? The individual suffers because he perceives duality. It is duality which causes all sorrow and grief. Find the One everywhere and in everything and there will be an end to pain and suffering.

Anandamayi Ma lived a simple life. She had no possessions nor attachments and called no particular place her home. She was constantly on the move through out her life, visiting her devotees and attracting all by magnetic personality till her last day on earth.

Timeline

• 1896 - 30th April : She was born at Kheora village, British India now in Bangladesh to Bipinbehari Bhattacharya and Mokshada Sundari Devi.

• 1897 - At her age just 10 months she was worshiped by a divine luminous person at Vidyakut.

• 1898 to 1908 - Child Nirmala, at her age 2 years, was overwhelmed with ecstasy while listening Kirtan (devotional song) in her mothers lap, at Sultanpur, her maternal uncle's place. Days of childhood spent in Kheora and Sultanpur. Primary education at both the places up to 2nd Grades at the age eight and nine. In the month of February 1908 she was married to Ramani Mohan Chakraborty of Vikrampur, Dhaka,  later he was known as Bholanath

• 1909 to 1914 - After marriage , Nirmala went to live with the family of Revati Mohon Chakraborty, at Sripur Narundi, (elder brother of Ramani Mohan) who was a Railway Station Master. Nirmala was regarded as deity of prosperity even at that time.

• 1915 to 1917 - After the sudden demise of Sri Revati Mohon, she came to live at Astagram where Ramani Mohan was posted. The wife of Jaysankar Sen gave her a name Khusir Ma (Mother of Bliss), seeing her smiling face and ever blissful mood. Harakumar, the brother-in-law of Jaysankar prophesied that in future the entire world would call her mother. While at daily domestic work she used to went in deep absorption. When Ramani Mohon was transferred to Bijapur, Ma stayed at Vidyakut for about 3 years.        

• 1918 - At Bajitpur, at 22 years of her age , Ma observed and experienced various mysterious spiritual Kriyas.

• 1922 -  She was self initiated (Diksha) in the midnight of the full moon in the month of August at the same place Bajitpur. In the same year December, when she was asked by her cousin brother that who she was. Ma emerged as Purna Brahma Narayan- a Divine Personage living amongst humanity. Bholanath received initiation from Ma. In the meantime Bholanath was started working at Shahbagh under Nawab of Dhaka, Bholanath took Ma there . Pran Gopal Mukhopadhyay and Jyotish Chandra Roy visited her for the first time.

• 1925 - Ma was appeared for her first photograph. On Mother's grace a paralytic girl was cured. On request of Baul Basak Ma performed Kali Puja, on a strange incidence everybody present in the Puja saw that no blood came out from a goat sacrificed during Puja. At Ramna Kali Temple she was the frequent visitor. Perceives in subtle form the Arabian Faquir and his disciples. Ma named Ma Anandamayi by Shri Jyotish Chandra Roy at Siddheswari .

• 1926 - Dr Shashanka Mohan Mukerjee and his daughter Adarini came to meet  Anandamayi Ma. Later they were known as Swami Akhandananda and Gurupriya Devi. In April first Basnti Puja was celebrated at Siddheswari. Jogesh Brahmachari meets Ma and joins Ashram. At the request of Pran Gopal Mukherjee, Anadamayi Ma went to Deoghar in Bihar to meet Balananda Swami. During this Journey she shortly stayed in Calcutta. At Shahbagh , reciting Quran on the grave of Faquir Ma recited from sacred Quran and posture specific to the Muslim prayer (Namaz) came in her person. Ma sees divine form of Kali in the void. Bholanath worshiped Ma as Kali. Kamalakanta Brahmachari joined the Ashram.

• 1927 - Anandamayi Ma headed for Haridwar to attend Kumbha Mela. During the journey few days stay in Calcutta, performed Kirtan at the residence of Pyari Banu, the daughter of the Nawab. Raja Janaki Nath first paid his visit to her and many other renowned personalities visited her. At Varanasi Ma stayed at Kunja Mohan Babu's house. Nepal Dada, known as Narayan Swami and Jitendra Thakur visited her first time. Kunja Babu worshiped Ma as Mother Divine. In Haridwar she stayed in a Dharmashala for seven days and bathed in sacred Brahmakunda. In return journey she visited Vrindavan and Mathura, After returning Shahbagh she performed various austerity practices like staying without food and water for 13 days and later for 23 days at a stretch. Then she started visiting different places along with Bholanath namely Vindhyachal Chunar. Jaipur, Bharatpur etc.

• 1928 -  Pandit Gopinath Kaviraj visited Ma. Her first discourse before others for the first time. She directed Bholanath to perform spiritual practices in a room adjacent to Siddhedwari Temple.

Construction of the first Ashram at Siddheswari. Birthday of Ma was celebrated by offering puja by Bholanath.

• 1929 -  13th April first entrance of Ma Anandamayi in the land bought for Ramna Ashram. Left for Dhaka with her father later Bhaiji accompanied them as advised by Bhalnath. She visited Chittagong, Coxbazar, Adinath, Chandranath, Haridwar and Dehradun. She stayed in Bhola Giri Ashram at Haridwar. Sri Atul Brahmachari joined the Ashram life. After returning to Siddheswari Anandamayi Ma converted herself to vegetarian. During this time famous Baul Sanyasi met Ma and prayed for recovery of property.

• 1930 - She advised Bholanath to stay at Siddheswari, Bholanath started initiation to the seekers. Ma Anandamayi leaved for South India. Returned via Dwarka, Vindhachal, Gaya, Chadranath and Adinath.

• 1931-  Construction of Temple at Ramna Ashram. Atul Thakur worshiped Ma. Philosophers among others Dr Mahendra Sarkar met Ma. Revelation of Ma from her own mouth. Annapurna, Shiva and Kali idols was installed in the Ramna Asram Temple. Only women performed whole night Kirtan. Didi Guripriya came to stay with Ma after leaving her home. Anandamayi Ma visited Bajitpur with others and there soil was initiated. Bhaiji was given sacred thread. She met Siddhi Ma.

• 1932 - At Ramna the idols were replaced through Ma's own gold ornaments. Installation of Shivalinga upon the alter in Siddheswari Temple by Bhokanath during Ma's birthday function. She headed for Dhaka for an unknown destination with Bholanath and Bhaiji. In June Ma arrived at Raipur and later Dehradun. She resided at the old Shiva Temple. She saved miraculously Bhaiji from drowning in the Ganga in Varanasi- though Ma was in Raipur, her cloth got wet.       

• 1933 - In Dehradun Hariram Joshi met Ma for the first time. Ma visited Mussoiri. Bholanath went to Badrinath. Ma visited Uttarkashi with Bhaiji. In July Mother and Wife of Pandit Jawarharlal Nehru came to meet Ma at Anand Chowk Temple.

• 1934 - On January 14th, Didi Gurupriya and Manorama Didi were given new names On March Ma visited Solan and stayed at Salogra Temple Cave. Ma had a meeting with Shogi Baba and Raja Durga Singh. Sashanka Mohan Mukherjee received Sanyas  from Swami Mangal Giri and named Swami Akhandananda Giri. Ma resided in Giri's Ashram. In June at Mussouri Kamala Nehru stayed with Ma. Construction of Temple at Uttar Kashi commenced under supervision of Bholanath.              

• 1935 - Ma visited Doonga at the request of Chaudhuri Sher Singh. Her birthday was celebrated at Kishenpur. She visited Yogendra Nagar and stayed at Tarananda Swami's Ashram. In the month of August new Kali Temple at Uttar Kashi was inaugurated. In the month of October she visited several places like Almora, Etawah, Faizabad, Ayodhya, Varanasi and Dharmshala met Kamala Nehru, Swami Visuddhananda Paramhansa and Babu Bhagwan Das. In December at Tarapith Sangya Devi, Vimala Ma and Ananda Bhai met Ma. A Muslim Priest was named Prem Gopal by her. In the same month in Calcutta Paramhansa Yogananda met Ma Anandamayi.

• 1936 - on 14th January at Tarapith Gurupriya Didi and Maroni received sacred thread. Visited Berhampore at the request of Abani Mohan Sharma, then went to Vrindavan, resided at Burdwan Kunj. In May in Dehradun Wrestler Ram Murti  met her. In Solan Raja Durga Singh named as Yogi Bhai. Visited Kali Temple in Simla where several Bengali devotees came to see her. During the rest of the year She started journey from Srirampur and visited several places across India and met Vaishnava saint Shyam Das Babaji and occurrence of various noteworthy incidents during the long trip.

• 1937 - In January, at Nabadwip performed Kirtan with Vaishnava devotees Bansi Das Baba and Seva Dasi on the bank of river Suradhani. In Chittagong performed Kirtan at Raj Rajeswari Temple, visited Sita Kund. Reception of Ma at Cox Bazar. Visited Buddha Temple and Vishnu Temple at Ramkut. In April visited Almora with an American Lady, local girls invited her to visit Kailah. On return to Calcutta in the same month Dilip Kumar Roy met Ma, she then visited her birth place Kheora. On the month of  June Ma started journey for Kailsh from Almora with Bholanath, Bhaiji, Akhandananda  Gurupriya Didi and others. Receptions at Askot by the ruling family. Ruma Devi , disciple of Sarada Devi and Narayan Swami met Ma. Bhaiji received sanyas mantra from Ma at the bank of Manas Sarovar. Performed parikrama of Mount Kailash, Five sages in their astral body accompanied her. Pooja rites performed at Gaurikund. Bhaiji fall sick on way back. Ma returned back to Almora in the month of August. Bhaiji remained seriously ill and leaved his body on 17th August. Various Yogic kriyas were observed in Ma Anandamayi and she went into long-drawn pecuiliar state of  health. In September she traveled through the bank of Narmada with Swami Ashimananda. Many Gujrati families closely drawn to  Anandamayi Ma. In September at Tarapith Anandamayi Ma sung Krishna Kanhaiya Bansi bajaiya with Swami Akhandananda, Bholanath and Ruma Devi for the first time. In Calcutta in the month of December her father Bipin Behari Bhattacharya died at the age of 71 yrs.

• 1938 - Dr Pitambar Pant dedicated his house at Haridwar to Anandamayi Ma  in January and the house was renamed as Anandamayi Sevasadan. At the time of Kumbha Mela, Saint Kiran Chand Darveshji met Ma. Pt Govind Ballabh Pant visited Ma in Dehradun. Bholanath felt seriously ill at Kishenpur Ashram and leaved his body on 6th May. His body was immersed in Ganges in Haridwar. In the month of September in Mussouri Dalai Lama sung before Anandamayi Ma. Kanya-Ashram (Kanyapeeth) was established in Seva-Sadan, Haridwar. The wife of Lakshmi Charan Bhattacharya donated land for a Ashram at Kheora. In the month of October visited Allahabad met several renowned people of the society like T B Sapru, Dr Panna Lall, C Y Chintamani, Justice Verma, Justice Mullali, Dr N P Asthana. P N Sapru, I D

  Joshi and Dr Trachand. On 20th October in Calcutta Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose met Ma . Ma visited Dakhsineswar. In November visited Ashram of Balananda Maharaj in Deoghar.

• 1939 - In January visited different places along with bank of the Narmada, stayed on a boat alone but with  Ruma Devi and came back to Mathura. Her mother received sanyas in April from Swami Mangal Giri and named Muktananda Giri. Next month she proceeded for Gangotri from Uttar Kashi, met Swami Krishnashram and Swami Paramananda. Swami Paramananda made all arrangement for Ma. In August she returned to Ramna Ashram and visited several places on the route and created an atmosphere of Joy everywhere. In October she leaved for Dhaka then to Suket in Punjab via Calcutta, Jamshedpur, Varanasi and Simla. Anandamayi Ma received royal reception at Suket. Visited Baijnath, Jwalamukhi, Kangra and Golden Temple in Amritsar.

1940 - Construction of new Ashram began in Puri in February. In August Shiva Idol placed at Kheora on Jhoolan Purnima. In October, Old Shiva Temple at Raipur Dehradun along with adjoining land was donated to Ma by the villagers.

• 1941 - The renowned Yogi Loknath Brahmachari appeared before Anandamayi Ma in astral body.

Jamnalal Bajaj, closed associated of Mahatma Gandhi came to meet Ma and very much drawn to her and stayed at Raipur Ashram for 9 days and wrote to Gandhiji about his experiences.

• 1942 -  In February Ma visited Dopuri and Sevagram after the demise of Jamnalal Bajaj, met Mahatma Gandhi and stayed few

days in the Ashram. Noted persons like Acharya Binoba Bhabe, Dr Rajendra Prasad , Kasturba Gandhi met Anandamayi Ma for the first time. In May her birthday function was held in Dehradun and in October Durgapuja was celebrated.

• 1943 - Constructed Samadhi Mandir of Bhaiji and rooms for Anandamayi Ma at Pataldevi. Ma stayed some days at Almora. Famous dancer Udai Shankar met Ma and invited her to his Cultural Center. An Australian lady Blanca Schlamm (later Br Atmananda) met Anandamayi Ma. Attended Bhagawat function in Dehradun at the request of Prabhudutt Brahmachari. It was the first presence of  Anandamayi Ma in association of Sadhus (sages). Hari Babaji Maharaj met Ma in the function. In October had a meeting with Yasodha Ma. Durga Puja was celebrated in Almora.

• 1944 -  In January, Ma visited Prabhudutta Brahmachari's Ashram in Allahabad, then proceeded for Delhi with him by Air. Attended havan ceremony, organized by Swami Karpatri Maharaj. She also visited the Ashram of Uriya Baba at Veindavan. In February met Pt Madan Mohan Malaviya in Allahabad. In March she inaugurated the Ashram land in Varanasi, attended Basanti Durga Puja. Prabhudutta Brahmachari, Chakrapaniji and other noted personalities were present in the celebration. In April foundation of the new Ashram laid at Kalyanvan in Dehradun. In May the new Ashram at Pataldevi, Almora was inaugurated. In July the first Ashram in Calcutta at Ekdalia Road was established. On 8th September Swami Akhandananda passed away in Varanasi. In October Ma visited Allahabad, attended Durga Puja at Krishna Kunj and visited the Ashram of Sri Gopal Thakur. In November Ma attended Havan function at Assi Ghat, Varanasi, organized by Swami Karapatraji. In December the first Geeta Jayanti at Vindhyachal Ashram was organized by Sri Gopal Thakur in presence of Anandamayi Ma.

• 1945 - In January Ma visited Dwarka, met Shankaracharya of Shardamath then visited Saranath and had a discussion on philosophy with Dr Mahendralal Sarkar. Smriti Mandir in memory of Swami Akhandananda was inaugurated in the Varanasi Ashram in the month of April.

• 1946 - In May Anandamayi Ma and Shri Hari Baba visited Calcutta. Rasik Mohan Vidya Bhushan met her and Hari Baba at the new Ashram. In October visited Solan during Durga Puja at the request of Raja Durga Singh. In Delhi attended prayer meeting at Birla House with Gandhiji.

• 1947 -  January in Varanasi, 3-year-long Akhanda Gayatri Maha Yagna beginned at the Ashram in presence of Anandamayi Ma. In May in Dehradun Pt Jawaharlal Nehru and  Sardar

  Ballabhbhai Patel came to meet her. The life of Ramlal was saved by Ma's grace and many other supernatural incidents happened during that time. In July Panchvati in Kalyanvan was established.  In October Durga Puja was celebrated at Boda, Jalpaiguri.

• 1948 - In May her birthday was celebrated at Dr J Sen's house in presence of many renowned personalities. In June Ma proceeded for Almora, Dhaulchina, Barechina and Jagesswar.

• 1949 - January visited Ambala, meeting with Triveni Puri Maharaj. In April in Dehradun, saint of Uttar Kashi Devi Giriji Maharaj came to meet Ma at Kishanpur Ashram and resided near by for quite some days. Many mahatmas participated the birthday celebration of Ma . Singer Pt Omkar Nath Thakur met Ma New Ashram Tapalaya was inaugurated at Raipur and a new block at Kalyanban was also opened.

• 1950 - January concluding function of 3-year-long Gayatri Maha Yagna. In April Anandamayi Ma participated Purna Kumbh Mela in Haridwar. In July new Viraja Mandir was opened at Varanasi Ashram. In October she was present in the Durga Puja which was celebrated at Berhampur.It was organized by Maharaja of Cossimbazar. • 1951 - Collin Turnbull of Scotland and Jack Unger of USA came to meet Anandamayi Ma at Varanasi Ashram. On request of Rajmata of Tehri, Anandamayi Ma visited Ananda Kashi and installed a Shiva Linga in a Temple during Navratri. In May visited Mandi , Kullu Manali, Jogendra Nagar at the request of Raja Jogendra Singh. In October Ma was present in the Durga Puja celebration  at the Varanasi Ashram. Kanyapeeth Shilpa Pratisthan block and Shishu Kalyan Centre were opened through the donation of Rajmata of Tehri.                         

• 1952 - Ma visited Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan in a Calcutta Hospital in January. Next month she installed Shiva Linga at Bhagat House, Haridwar. On 6th August at Varanasi Ashram first Sanyam Saptah was celebrated. Swami Shankar Bharati met Ma through divine orders. In October Durga Puja was celebrated at the residence of Shri Baleswar Prasad , a devotee of Ma. On 20th October

The Mother of Sri Aurobinda Ashram

Anandamayi Ma leaved for South India from Puri Ashram. Hari Baba, Avadhootji and few others were accompanied her  Special reception in Madras was organized. Visited Aurobinda Ashram at Pandichery and met Mother of the Ashram. She then visited the Ashram of Ramana Maharshi at Tiruvannamalai. Then she proceeded for Rameswar, a devotee in astral body was accompanying her . Public reception of Anandamayi Ma in Bangalore.    

• 1953 - On 26th January Ma returned to Vindhyachal after the long tour from Kanayakumari, Pandharpur, Pune, Bombay, Ahmedabad, Junagadh, Prabhas, Porbandar, Dwarka, Rajkot, Morvi, Bhavnagar, Baroda. On 30th January second Sanyam Saptah celebrated at Vindhyachal Ashram. On 26th February Ma inaugurated several Kutias for Sadhus at Vrindaban Ashram. She then attended opening of Manav Seva Sangha Ashram founded by Swami Saranananda. In May came back to Haridwar. In July Ma visited Almora , some strange supernatural incidents happened. In November third Sanyam Saptah was cebrated in Calcutta betwwen 14th to 20th.

• 1954 -  In February in Allahabad Kumbha Mela hundreds of pilgrims crushed to death  Premonition to Ma ashram devotees saved. On 16th April installation of Shiva Linga over Bhaiji;s Samadhi in her presence. On 9th August, in Varanasi an Idol of Gopal came to Ma mysteriously. On 19th August 5 trees were planted near Chunar Fort where super natural incidents were happened years befroe. On 26th August new Ashram was inaugurated at Kalkaji, New Delhi. Raja Gaznafar Ali Khan of then Pakistan High Commissioner was greatly impressed about Anandamayi Ma. On 13th October Ma visited Khanna, near Ludhiana at the request of Krisnananda Abodhootji. The Dy High Commissioner of Pakistan met Ma and got into trance, began reciting Quran verses. 18th to 24th November the fourth Sanyam Saptah was celebrated at Juhu Sea Beach, in Bombay. On 10th December in Ahmedabad, Ma attended Bhagawat Saptah in the lawn of K C Munshaw. On 22nd December visited Bhopal. S N Aga met Ma.

• 1955 -  On 5th January new Ashram at Rajgir was inaugurated.. On 6th March in Vrindaban Ma received injury on her foot. It was learned there were some supernatural incidents for the same. On 14th August Ma visited Gwalior Palace at the request of Rajmata Scindia. In October she attended Durga Puja in Calcutta. On 13th November installation of Kali Image at Ranchi Ashram. On 22nd to

28th November Fifth Sanyam Saptah was celebrated in New Delhi Kali Bari. On 7th December Ma visited Dr Sarvepalli Radha Krishnan's residence on his request. On 18th December Ma brought ailing Hari Babaji to Delhi for treatment.

• 1956 - In February in Varanasi several distinguished perosons like the Swiss Professor Dr Boss, Linguist Dr Arnold Bake, the French Writer Jean Herbert and Violet Sydney came to meet her. On 10th March 5 Shiva Linga was installed in newly constructed Temple in Vrindavan Ashram. On 18th April -Function of  the Anandamayi Karuna and Shishu Kalyan Centre in her presence. Feeding of Harijans of the city. In May Ma's Diamond Jubilee Celebration was organised in Varanasi with various programmes. On 22nd June Ma visited Paramarth Niketan at Rishikesh and met Swami Sadananda. She also visited Sivananda Ashram and met Swami Sivananda. In June visited Ananda Kashi. On 18th October Anandamayi Ma attended Arti at Vishnu Pada Temple, Gaya. while visiting Bodh Gaya she felt divine presence of Lord Buddha. From 12th to 18th November sixth Sanyam Saptah was celebrated in Saptarishi Ashram, Haridwar.

• 1957 - Ma Visited Kuchaman Fort on 15th February. On 27th February inauguration of newly constructed Geeta Bhawan and Bhadawat Bhawan at Vrindavan. On 17th March visited Modinangar alongwith Hari Baba and Avadhootji, there they attended weeklong programme. In August at Dehradun Ma was physically unwell. Earnest prayer by all concern including saintsin astral body for her quick recovery. On 14th November American Film Star Jennifer Jones met Ma in New Delhi and got very much impressed. From 20th November the Seventh Sanyam Saptah was celebrated at New Delhi Ashram. On 29th November the first Nan Yagna organized at newly constructed Nam Brahma Mandir in Kalkaji Ashram. Ma visited the residence of the then Defence Minister Babu Jag Jivan Ram at his special request. His wife feeded her.

• 1958 - On 14th April new Ashram at Agarpara near Calcutta was inaugurated. In June Swami Shankar Bharati passed away. On 14th September in Varanasi Ashram, Bal Gopal function was held at the initiative of Dr Gopal Das Gupta. on 20th October Ma attended Durga Puja at the resodence of Shri Baleswar Prasad in Allahabad. From 13th November the eighth Sanyam Saptah was observed at Swadeshi House in Kanpur.

• 1959 - Anandamayi Ma visited Jhalawar State in Rajasthan on 7th January which was facilitate by Shri A Mohon Lal. On 13th April Ma attended a programme at Saptarishi Ashram, Haridwar.  Pt Jawaharlal Nehru met her there. From 15th to 22nd April at Ramnagar, Rishikesh the ninth Sanyam Saptah was observed which was organized by Kali Kamli Trust. Hundreds of Saddus (sages) had attended the programme. Daya Mata, disciple of Paramhansa Yogananda and the President of the Self Realization Fellowship met Anandamayi Ma. Her birthday celebration was held in Kishenpur Ashram from 3rd to 25th May. On 24th August Pt Jawaharlal Nehru came to Kalkaji Ashram and met Ma. On 15th September Daya Mata met Ma in the Varanasi Ashram. In the first week of October Durga Puja was celebrated in Varanasi, organised by Rani Sahiba Mandi. On 7th October Shri V V Giri came to meet Ma and had a long discussion. At Vindhyachal Ashram a week long individual sadhana held. Between 8th to 14th November the tenth Sanyam Saptah was organized in Agarpara Ashram.

• 1960 -  In January Ma attended Ardh Kumbha Mela in Allahabad. On 10th March Ma visited the Ashram of Ganesh Dutt Goswami at Haridwar. G S Ayengar with his family members came to meet Ma. In April Ma resided at Ananda Kashi for three weeks. Swami Purushottam Tirtha met Ma there. Ma visited newly constructed bunglow at Mussouri, built for her by the Rajmata of Tehri. In May her birthday was celebrated at the residence of B K Shah in Bombay. In Pune in the month of May Dilip Kumar Roy and Hira Bai Barokar sung before Ma. Shri K N Katju and G L Nanda came to meet her. In September Durga Puja was celebrated in Agarpara Ashram. The eleventh Sanaym Saptah was celebrated in Naimisharanya Ashram and subsequently one hundred eight Bhagawat Saptah took place. On 25th December Mr James George , High Commissioner of Canada and his family came to meet Ma in Agarpara Ashram.

  Brohi High Commissioner of Pakistan and Raihana Taiyabji came to meet Ma. She then attended Kasturba Memorial Function in Delhi.On 3rd April Ma named the residence of Nitai Basu Mallick as Shanti Niketan, later he donated the house to the Ashram. On 17th April Ma visited Gwalior and inaugurated Memorial of late Maharaja. She then visited Scindia Public School. In May her birthday was celebrated at the house of N N Mukherjee in Allahabad. Between 2nd

  and 4th May Pt Jawaharlal Nehru and daughter Indira Ganghi attended the programme. On 16th May, Ma arranged cancer operation of Pt Gopinath Kaviraj at Tata Memorial Hospital, Bombay. On 9th June Bhagwan Das Nagpal donated the land on Ganesh Khind Road for Ashram. Ma took rest for six weeks in Pune. Dr Rajendra Prasad and Sri Prakah came to meet Ma. In July Ma visited Bangalore at the request of Shri S R Das Gupta , Chief Justice of Mysore. She then leaved for Calcutta via Madras. In September Ma visited Rashtrapati Bhawan at the request of Dr Rajendra Prasad and also visited the residence of Pt Jawaharlal Nehru at his special request. Between 15th to 20th October Durga Puja was celebrated at Swadeshi House in Kanpur, Daya Mata came meet her again. Between 9th to 15th November the twelfth Sanyam Saptah was celebrated at Suktal and Bhagwat Saptah also organized.

• 1962 - On 12th April Ma taken in procession on elephant by sadhus of Niranjani Akhara on the eve of Kumbha Mela at Haridwar. Three ashramites took sanyas from Muktananda Giri. On 27th April Pt Jawaharlal Nehru and his sister Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit visited Kishenpur Ashram to meet Ma. In May Ma's birthday was celbrated in Dehradun. Ma resided at the new Sadhan Ashram donated by Shri R C Sood. On 9th June Swami Sadananda, Shankaracharya of Jyotir Math came to meet Ma and delivered lecture on spirituality. On 12th September in Delhi Smt Tarakeswari Sinha, Shri Bhagwan Sahay, Mr M Rehman and his wife and Prof. Humayun Kabir came to meet her. On 21st October Ma inaugurated a new Kali Temple in Ranchi. From 5th to 11th November the thirteenth Sanyam Saptah was celebrated at Pilani , organized by J K Birla. On 14th November Ma visited Prime Minister's House without any information and blessed Pt Nehru on his birthday.

• 1963 - On 23rd January Ma inaugurated Lakshmi Narayan Temple at Modinagar at the request of Shri G M Modi. Ma went to Karauli at the invitation of Karauli Raj Family. In May Ma's birthday was celebrated in Agarpara Ashram. Swami Santananda , Shankaracharya of Joshi Math attended the fuction. On 12th August Gopal Idol was installed at Anand Jyoti Temple, Varanasi. On 16th October Durga Puja was celebrated at the residence of the brother of Jadu Nath Bhattacharya. In November Ma attended Bhagawat Saptah at the Gwalior Raj Palace, Bombay. Fourteenth Sanyam Saptah was observed from 23rd to 29th November at the residence of K C Munshaw in Ahmedabad.

• 1964 -   On 29th February Ma visited Prime Minister's House to see ailing Pt Nehru, it was the last meeting. In May her birthday was celebrated in Almora Ashram, Ma visited there after 10 years. On 15th July Ram Sita idol was installed at the new temple in Kalyanban Ashram.On 25th August Ma stayed 3 nights at Sadhan Ashram. On 8th September Ma visited Rishukesh for Centenary Celebration of Sivananda Maharaj.In October Durga Puja was celebrated in Vrindaban Ashram. From 11th to 18th November fifteenth Sanyam Saptah was celebrated in Vrindaban Ashram. On 27th November Kumari Buni passed away. On 14th December inauguration of Ram Temple built by Maharani of Mysore inside Vrindaban Ashram.

• 1965 -  In February Ma visited Niramoy T B Sanatorium at Giri Danga, West Bengal and attended opening of Shiva Temple. On 20th February inauguration of Shiva Temple in Rajgir Ashram. On 27th March Ma visited the new Ashram at Bairagarh at the invitation of Sir Datar Singh. The Begum of Bhopal State met Ma and immensely delighted and recited from the Quran Verses. In May her birthday was celebrated in Ranchi Ashram. On 30th June Ma attended Chariot Festival of Sri Jagannatha in Puri. In September Ma attended Durga Puja celebration in the Agarpara Ashram. From 1st to 7th November sixteenth Sanyam Saptah was celebrated at Hazaribagh, organised by Sri Jagnnath Roy. On 24th November Sri Biswanath Das, Governor U P , Chief Minister Sanchata Kripalini and Union Health Minister Dr Sushila Nayyar came to meet Ma.

• 1966 -  In January Ma Anandamayi attended Kumbha Mela in Allahabad. Smt Indira Gandhi, Shri G I Nanda, Dr Sushila Nayyar and Shri G S Pathak all came to meet Ma. On 13th April Ma visited

Prime Minister's House at the request of Smt Indira Gandhi. The whole family paid respect to Ma. The birthday celebration of Anandamayi Ma was held in the compound of M L Khaitan's residence in Dehradun. On 16th May Ma met with a minor car accident in Dehradun. In September installation of Chhaliya Temple in Vrindaban Ashram and installation of image of Radha Krishna at the wishes of  Rajmata Gwalior and Yogibhai of Solan. In October Durga Puja celebration in Bombau at the house of Shri B K Shah. From 20th to 26th November seventeenth Sanyam Saptah was celebrated in Vrindavan Ashram.organised by Maharaja and Maharani of Bhavnagar. The Queen Mother of Greece and Princes Irene came to meet Ma. On 27th November Katyayani Pooja at Vrindavan Ashram by Shri Narendra Brahmachari of Baidyanath  Dham, Deoghar, in presence of Anandamayi Ma.

• 1967 - In May Ma's birthday was celebrated in Kanpur at the wishes of Jaipuria family. Pt Ramkinkar recited Ramayan Katha. In October Dutga Puja was celebrated in Vridavan Ashram, organized by Shri Suresh Mahindra. Eighteenth Sanyam Saptah was celebrated in Vrindaban Ashram. Shri G.S.

• 1968 - On 24th April Sri Mohanananda Brahmachari came to meet Ma in Varanasi Ashram. Ma attended the programme of Dilip Kumar Roy at the residence of Gauri Nath Sastri. Ma visited Dr Sampurnananda who was ill at that time. On 30th April Ananda Jyoti Mandir was inaugurated in Varanasi Ashram. Hari Babaji was present in the occassion. Installation of Gopal Idol at the Ground Floor of the new Temple. In May Ma's birthday was celebrated in Varanasi Ashram. On 3oth July Ma entered in the new Bunglow specially built for her in the premises of Shri M L Khaitan in Dehradun. On 25th August in Varanasi Ashram Swami Sacchidananda, Head of Integral Yoga Institute , New York came to meet Ma with his group of followers. On 23rd September Ma attended Navratra Durga Utsav at the residence of M L Khaitan. From 29th October to 4th November nineteenth Sanyam Saptah was celebrated. In November . Ma attended the two week long Bhagawat discourses by Swami Akhandananda at Nalmisharanya, attended by principal mahatmas, Hari Babaji. Swami Sharanananda. Swami Govind Prakash and others. From 7th to16th December at the request of Hari Babaji Ma attended a huge religious conference at Subhash Groud, Delhi. On 26th December,  Mata Anandamayee Hospital in Varanasi formally inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Smt. Indira Gandhi in Ma’s divine presence. Smt. Gandhi visited Ananda Jyoti Mandir also. 

• 1969 -  On 18th February Ma visited Anup Sahar at the request of Hari Babaji. On 6th March Ma

Rajmata of Gwalior

visited Gwalior at the invitation of Rajmata. In May Her birthday was celebrated at the house of B K Shah in Bombay. Mother Anna Huberta and two Roman Catholic Nuns, and Kamu Baba, a Muslim Priest came to meet Ma. On 29th May in Ahmedabad She visited Raj Bhavan at the request of the Governor Shri Sriman Narayan. On 1st August Ma was in Bairagarh Ashram. Governor Shri K C Reddy , Chief Minister and other Ministers along with officials came to meet Ma. On 31st August Ma attended Akhanda Ramayan Path at Sadhan Ashram. On 3rd September, some disciples of Swami Sivananda came from Venezuela came to meet Ma in Kishenpur Ashram. In october Ma attended Durga Puja at th residence of H C Banerjee in Varanasi. On 30th October a new Block was inaugurated built by the Singhanias inside the J K Temple. Between 17th to 23rd November twentieth Sanyam Saptah was celebrated in Vrindavan Ashram. A group of 65 American led by Sri Subramaniam came for Ma's darshan.

• 1970 - On 1st January. Sri Hari Babaji, was  brought to Varanasi Ashram as per Ma’s advice. He was seriously ill.  On 3rd January,  Sri Hari Babaji leaved his body in Ma’s presence. On 13th January, Sri G.S. Pathak, Vice President of India arrived with his family for Ma’s darshan. On16th January, the famous saint Gangeswaranandaji came to meet Ma. In February two-week long Bhagawat programme by Swami Akhandananda in Mata Anandamayi Hospital campus from 21st February to 7th March. On 14th April,  new Siva Temple was inaugurated in Kankhal Ashram. In May Ma’s birthday was celebrated in Pune Ashram. Maharaja of Baroda and Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, came for Ma's darshan. In July. Ma visited Miraj at the request of Sri T.P. Patel and also to Nipani along with Pt Gopinath Kaviraj. In August,  Ma attended Bhagawat Saptah at Jaipuria House, Ramghat in Haridwar. On 9th August, Swami Muktananda Giri (Mataji’s mother) suddenly passed away at about 1-30 a.m. in Ma’s presence at Jaipuria House on the bank of Ganges. Body was given samadhi in the precincts of the Ashram at Kankhal under the guidance of Mahant of Niranjani Akhara. On 20th August. bhandara of sadhus was given in Rishikesh at Sivananda Ashram and Kailash Ashram. Ma attended the same. Meeting with the renowned saint Swami Vishnudevananda Giri of the Kailash Math. On 23rd August. special Pooja, Kirtan etc were arranged and feeding of one thousand poor people. On 25th August about five hundred sadhus fed in Nirvani Akhara, Kankhal and feeding of sadhus and poor in almost all the ashrams of Ma for Swami Muktananda. On 9th September. Ma visited Gwalior at the request of Rajmata Scindia and attended Bhagawat Saptah by Swami Akhandanand. In October Durga Puja was celebrated in Kalkaji Ashram. The Prime Minister Smt Indira Gandhi along with other dignitaries like Shri Nijlingappa, Acharya Kripalini, Dr Karan Singh and others attended. From 4th to 10th November twenty first Sanyam Saptah was celebrated in Suktal Ashram, organized by Swami Vishnu Ashram. From 14th to 29th November Ma attended Bhagawat Programme in Kanpur at the request of Padampat Sighania.

Mukti Maharaj ( Swami Nirgunananda) was the the first patient. Ma attended Durga Puja at the residence of M L Khaitan in Dehradun. From 26th October to 1st November twenty second Sanyam Saptah was observed in Vrindavan Ashram. From 23rd to 30th November Bhagawat discourse by Swami Vishnu Ashram at Bairagarh Ashram. Ma attended Bhagawat Programme by Swami Akhandananda in Kanpur from 13th to 28th December. Governor Shri Gopal Reddy came to meet Anandamayi Ma.

• 1972 -  On 4th January Ma leaved for South India and reached 7th in Madras. Ma was accompanying a group of 46 people. Smt M S Shubhulakshmi received them. Daughter of Shri Rajagopalachari and daughter-in-law of Mahatma Gandhi came to meet Ma. On 9th January Ma leaved from Trivandrum, visited Kaladi, the birth place of Sankaracharya. She was received well by the priests. On 14th January attended the special function of Padmanabhji on the occasion of Pongal festival. On 17th March Ma attended the inauguration of a new Shiva Temple in Varanasi Ashram, Sri Narendra Brahmachari of Deogharh came to meet Ma. On 26th March Shri G S Pathak and Shri Gopal Reddy came for Ma's darshan. On 30th March Sri Nim Karori Baba met Ma. On 29th April a new building was inaugurated for Ma in Kalkaji Ashram. Birthday celebration in Kalkaji Ashram in the month of May. On 12th July installation of the image of Radha Krishna in newly constructed temple in Pune Ashram. Ma visited Raj Bhavan in Ahmedabad on request of the Governor Sri Sriman Narayan. On 7th October Ma attended Durga Puja celebration in Naimisharanya Ashram. From 11th to 17th November twenty third Sanyam Saptah was observed at Surat Giri Bunglow at Kankhal, organized by M M Swami Brahmananda Maharaj.  

• 1973 - On 17th January Swami Gangeswarananda installed the Vedas in Naimisharanya Puran Mandir. In Fevruary Ma visited Mahabaleswar at the invitation of Sri Rati Lal Nanavati. On 7th March Ma visited the Ashram of Sri Narandra Brahmachari at Baidyanathdham. On 12th March Ma inaugurated Niramoy Poly Clinic at South Calcutta. She stayed there for 2 days at the request of the Genaral Secretary Dr G N Roy. On 17th March Ma attended Holi festival at Gaziabad at the invitation of Sitaram Jaipuria. Akhand Kirtan was organized. On 24th March Sri Tanpure Maharaj came to Ma and appealed for assistance for drought-hit-people of Maharashtra. Immediately one hundred bags of wheat arranged through Ma's Kheyala. In May Ma's birthday function was organized by M M Swami Vidyananda Maharaj at Kailash Ashram, Uttar Kashi. Ma visited Saint Sri Ramananda on the bank of Ganges. In September Durga Puja was celebrated at Bhagat House, Haridwar, organized by Maharaja of Nabha. From 3rd to10th November twenty fourth Sanyam Saptah was celebrated in Vrindavan Ashram. In November Ma attended two weeks programme in Kanpur at the request of Padampat Singhania. On 11th December Ma visited Bithoor near Kanpur and stayed in Ganga Vihar Dharmshala and Naini Jaipuria House for few days. 

• 1974 - In February Ma attended inaugural and second procession of Kumbh Mela in Haridwar. On 18th February Shiva Linga was installed in Sadhan Ashram, Dehradun. On 25th February Ma attended Bhagawat Programme at Jodhpur Park, Calcutta. On 8th March Ma attended Holi procession in Calcutta at the invitation of Tarun Kanti Ghosh. On 25th April Statue of  Muktananda Giri installed at Shiva Temple Haridwar. Birthday celebration in Bombay at the residence of Sri Vissanji. Ma attended Bhagawat programme in Pune Ashram, organized by Swami Akhandananda Sri Dilip Kumar Roy came with others for Darshan. Several inmates of the Sacred Heart of Christ came for Ma’s darshan. In October Durga Puja was celebrated in Kankhal Ashram. From 22nd to 28th November twenty fifth Sanyam Saptah was celebrated at Ram Tirtha Ashram, Rajpur, Dehradun at the invitation of M M Swami Gobinda Prakash. On 1st December Ma attended Ramayana programme of Pt Atul Krishna Goswami at Swadeshi House, Kanpur. On 10th December Ma was present in Bhagawat Programme of Swami Akhandananda, organized by Padampat Sighania.

• 1975 -  On 14th January inauguration of Havan Shala in Naimisharanya Ashram. In March Ma visited Gondal and Porbunder. On 14th April inauguration of Satsang Hall at Kankhal. On 14th May installation of divine image of Puran Purush in the new Temple at Naimisharanya Ashram. In June Ma went Assam, visited Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati then traveled to Dibrugarh , attended several programme. In October Durga Puja was celebrated in Varanasi Ashram.

In May Ma's birthday was celebrated in Kankhal Ashram. From 17th May Ma resided at Ganga Lahari Guest House of the Birlas at Raiwala on the bamk of Ganges for a week. In June Ma visited Kailash Ashram at Uttar Kashi at the invitation of M M Swami Vidyananda. On 11th August at

Ma then attended a religious programme at Karauli, visited temple of Madan Mohanji. On 23rd November Bhagawat Saptah was observed at Hathwa House, Patna. In December Ma visited Ranchi and resided at Ratu Palace at the invitation of Maharaja. On 29th December Shri Sitaram Das Omkar Nath visited Varanasi Ashram to meet Ma.

• 1977 -  In January Ma entered Kumbha Mela Ground In Allahabad in procession with Maha Nirvani Akhara and also joined in procession for all three main bathing days. In February Ma visited Kurukshetra at the request of G L Nanda and attended Shivratri function on the bank of Brahma Sarovar and then She visited Sangameshwar Temple. In the same month Ma attended special Kumbha Mela on the bank of Sabarmati River at the request of M M Sri Gita Bharati and resided in her new Ashram for four days. On 5th March Ma attended Holi Festival in Varanasi Ashram and then on 8th Match attended Ramayana Programme at Chitrakoot at the invitation of Sri Sita Ram Jaipuria. On 19th March She along-with Swami Akhandananda visited and attended  Annapurna Puja at the Ashram of Sri Narendra Brahmachari in Deoghar. On 14th April at Kankhal Ashram centenary celebration of  Muktananda Giri began. On 17th April at Naimisharanya. The Institute for Puranic and Vedic Studies and Research formally inaugurated. Maharshi Mahesh Yogi

Mahesh Yogi came to meet Ma and requested her to visit Europe and America to allow her Darshan for all. On 19th May, Ma attended Bhagawat Programme at Paramartha Ashram, Bareilly. On 28th May Ma visited Almora Ashram after a gap of 13 years and stayed for more than two weeks. Between 13th to 22nd October Ma visited Narendra Nagar at the request of Maharaja of Tehri and attended Navratra celebration and programme of Devi Bhagawat. On 26th October Ma attended Lakshmi Puja and then Kali Puja and Annakut on 10th and 11th November. From 18th to 25th November twenty eighth Sanyam Saptah was organized by Swami Brahmananda Maharaj at Badrik Ashram. Anandamayi Ma then visited Bhimpura Ashram on the bank of the river Narmada. Then She visited Bombay and Pune and proceeded for Bairagarh Ashram, Bhopal. On 31st December Ma arrived Panch Mari at the invitation of N N Shah.

• 1978 - On 14th March inauguration of Havan Shala at Kankhal. Th Holy Fire was brought from Varanasi Ashram. On 12th February Saraswati Puja held in Bhimpura Ashram.

  

  Adi Sankaracharya

  On 14th April at Kankhal the centenary celebration of  Muktananda Giri concluded. On 10th May marble statue of Adi Sankaracharya was installed in the Central Hall of Kankhal Ashram. Her birthday was celebrated in Kankhal Ashram organized by M M Swami Purnananda, Ma attended Durga Puja at Gondal from 7th to 11th October at the invitation of Maharaja and Maharani of Gondal. From 7th to 14th November twenty ninth Sanyam Saptah held in Sant Ram Mandir, Nadiad. She then attended Bhagawat Programme in Morvi Palace at the invitation of Rajmata from 4th December.

• 1979 -  In April Anandamayi Ma attended special Holi Programme in Vridavan Ashram and Silver Jubilee Celebration of All India Vedanta Sammelan in the Ashram of M M Swami Purnananda. On 22nd April installation of image of Kali and statue of Swami Muktananda Giri in the new temple of Kalkaji Ashram. On 1st May She visited the residence of Dr Channa Reddy, The Chief Minister in Secunderabad. From 6th to 16th May Ma's birthday was celebrated in Bangalore, organized by local devotees headed by the Governor Shri Govinda Narain and Elaya Raja Marthanda Verma of Tranvancore. The function was inaugurated by Sankaracharya of Dwarka. Many renowned spiritual leaders of South India attended the programme. Smt Indira Gandhi was also an attendee. On17th May Ma arrived in Madras and resided at Raj Bhawan at the invitation of Governor P D Patwari. Then went to Bhubaneswar and resided at Raj Bhawan at the request of the Governor Shri B D Sharma. On 22nd Ma visited Puri and stayed at Ashram near Swargadwar, attended the Chariot Festival of Sri Jagannath. She resided in Puri for more than one month. In september Ma attended Durga Puja celebration at Kankhal Ashram. In October Ma attended Kali Puja and Annakut function at Gondal Palace. From 28th October to 4th November thirtieth Sanyam Saptah observed at Kurukshetra organized by by M M Swami Ganeshananda Maharaj. On 4th December Ma arrived at Bihar Ghat at the bank of Ganges after visiting Modi Nagar, at the invitation of Swami Vishnu Ashram.

• 1980 -  On 28th January Ma attended Saraswati Puja at the residence of Sri Nanu Bhai Sastri, in Ahmedabad. On 14th April installation of statue of Muktananda Giri in Ranchi Ashram. In May Her birthday was celebrated in Kankhal Ashram. On 29th May, Ma attended Ati Rudra Yagna at the residence of Sri M L Khaitan, in Dehradun.On 8th August, at the request of Raja Pratap Singh, She visited Kuchaman Fort. In September Bhagawat Saptah was held in Vrindavan Ashram. Gurupriya Didi's condition got worse. Ma took her to Varanasi. Then Ma went to Bombay. On 15th Ma returned to Vrindavan and got the news of Didi's death. Immediately Ma proceeded for Varanasi. Didi given Jal-Samadhi in Ganges. Ma returned to Vrindavan for the concluding Bhagawat Programme. On 6th October Ma visited Udaipur Temple at Nath Dwara. Then She attended Durga Puja at the residence of Shri B K Shah in Bombay. From 15th to 22nd November thirty first Sanyam Saptah was celebrated in Kailash Ashram, felicitated by M M Swami Vidyananda Maharaj. From 12th to 19th November Bhagawat Programme held in Varanasi Ashram. Discoursed by Swami Vishnu Ashram Maharaj. 

• 1981 -  On 7th January Anandamayi Ma attended Centenary Celebration of M M Swami Ganeswarananda Maharaj. Discoursed on Bhagawat by Sri Dongre Maharaj. On 27th January Ma visited Secunderbad at the request of Dr Channa Reddy. On 8th March, unannounced visit of Anandamayi Ma to the Head Quarter of Ramakrishna Mission at Belur in relation to 145th Birth

Sri Ramakrishna

Anniversary of Ramakrishna Paramhansa.  She had discussion with the President of the Math, Swami Visheshwarananda. On 8th May Ati Rudra Yagna performed in Kankhal Ashram. Birthday celebration of Ma in Kankhal Ashram. On 13th July inauguration of Shiva Temple at Naimisharanya Ashram. Some strange incidents were reported and observed behind the selection of the site.

Anandamayi Ma and Smt Indira Gandhi

On 21st July formal opening of The Institute for Puranic and Vedic Studies and Research by Smt Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister. Smt Gandhi also visited the Ashram. On 13th August Ma visited Porbunder at the request of Swami Ashishananda. On 23rd August Ma visited Morvi State at the request of Rajmata. She then participated at the installation of Shiva Linga. Form 4th October to 8th October Ma attended Durga Puja in Kankhal Ashram. Ma received the news of passing away of Sri Narayan Swami in Varanasi. From 4th to 11th November thirty second Sanyam Saptah held in Kankhal Ashram. On 24th November Ma attended Bhagawat discourses by Swami Akhandananda at Hathwa Palace Patna. On request of Maharani Ma visited the old Palace of Hathwa State. Chief Minister of Bihar attended the programme.

• 1982 - On 10th January in Allahabad Ma entered the Kumbha Mela Ground in procession and joined the procession for two main bathing days. On 30th January Ma arrived at Varanasi Ashram and attended Saraswati Puja. On 31st January Ma went to Naimisharanya and stayed for a short rest. Sir C P N Singh, Governor of U P visited Ma and laid foundation for New Block of Institute for Puran and Vedic Studies and Research. On 20th February Ma attended Shivratri Festival in Kankhal Ashram. Ma then went to Kalkaji Ashram and proceeded for Vrindavan Ashram. Inauguration of Ashram Charitable Dispensary by Smt Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister. In March , Sir C P N Singh, Governor of U P , M M Swami Ganeswarananda, Mahararaja of Jaipur and Dr Karan Singh and some other dignitaries came to meet Ma. On 9th March Ma attended Holi Festival in the Ashram. Ma then went to Agartala from Delhi by Train and part by Bus. On her way huge people gathered in several places for Ma's Darshan. On 31st March Ma reached Calcutta from Agartala, stayed at Bhasa a mini Ashram, built by Shri Bibhuti Chakraborty. Ma attended installation ceremony of the statue of Muktananda Giri at Agarpara Ashram on 4th April. On 8th April Ma entered in the new building at Kankhal built for her on the bank of Ganges by Sri S N Ghosh and his wife. On  26th April Ma reached Kanpur for a short programme. Birthday celebration of Ma in Kankhal Ashram from 3rd to 11th May. On 29th April, Prime Minister Smt Indira Gandhi came for Ma's Darshan at Kankhal. On 17th May, Sankaracharya of Sringeri came to see Ma  with his devotees. and resided at the Ashram. On 16th June Ma visited Kishenpur Ashram and attended Bhagawat programme by Swami Vishnu Ashram. On 26th June Sankaracharya of Sringeri returned to Kishenpur Ashram after finishing the trip to Gangotri and Yamunotri and stayed till 2nd July. He had a very memorable talk with Ma on Ma's health condtion on the last day of his stay. On 30th June Sri Sitaram Omkarnath arrived in Dehradun from Kanya Kumari on receiving news of Ma's deteriorating heath condition. He repeatedly prayed to Ma to have Kheyal for her own health.On 5th July Ma came to M L Khaitan;s House in Dehradun. In the first week of July Smt Indira Gandhi with full family came to see Ma. On 11th July Sri Yogashakti Ma from USA came to see Aandamayi Ma on hearing her health condition. On her stay in Dehradun Dr K N Udupa did regular health check up of Anandamayi Ma. On 20th July Ma returned to Kishenpur Ashram. On 24th July Dr S C Seth of Bombay came for her health check up. On 23rd August Swami Krishnananda of Divine Life Society Rishikesh, performed special worship of Ma in the form of Radha out of his spontaneous urge  on the Radhastami Day  

• On 27th August Friday, in Kishenpur Ashram, at around 8 PM Anandamayi Ma completed her divine play on earth and assumed the the immutable immanent form.

• On 28th August Sri Sri Anandamayi Ma was brought from Kishenpor Ashram to Kankhal by road in procession. Spiritual Leaders of different orders and devotees paid their respect on the way.

• On 29th August, Prime Minister Smt Indira Gandhi  arrived at Kankhal Ashram. Sri Sri Anandamayi Ma's divine body given Maha Samadhi at 1:30 PM near the the ancient Pipal Tree, under which She used to sit in many occasions and give Darshan to the seekers.

Anandamayi Ma the Mother-Bliss-Incarnate 

In the introductory prelude of his beautiful book the author Anil Ganguli expresses his experience as chance encounter changes his life. Anil Ganguli was traveling from Delhi to Calcutta, on January 31, 1947. The Calcutta bound Delhi Express was about to leave Delhi Junction Railway Station. Ganguli was rushing frantically from one end of the platform to the other in search of accommodation on the train. It was one of the coldest nights in Northern India. The porter led him to a vacant compartment and went away. He occupied one of the upper berths, Soon after some gentlemen told him that the compartment had been reserved for Anandamayi Ma, he felt embarrassed for his guilt of not knowing and he was about to turn out of the compartment. But on the contrary, suddenly he overheard a sweat voice of a Bengali Lady.

Leave Baba (Father) alone, he is so tired.

Ganguli could not see the lady but was agreeably surprised and deeply touched. by the sympathetic tone of Her voice. The sense of  words uttered  by her was comforting, the sound simply captivation. His first impulse was to be chivalrous and to leave the compartment. But expediency prompted him to feign sleep. In fact he did fall asleep within a few minutes, not caring for his fellow passengers, nor did they bother themselves about him. On the first encounter Ganguli wrote :

As the day dawned, I came down from the upper berth. I wanted a seat on the berth below mine. It was occupied by a lady saint who looked the very picture of peacefulness. Later on, I was told that she was Didima, the mother of Anandamayi Ma. Didima was then immersed in meditation. She did not speak to me but offered me a seat on her berth and then sprinkled holy Ganga water on my head. I appreciated her courtesy, but not the chilling effect of the drops of water that had moistened my forehead that cold winter morning. However, I accepted the kindly gesture without protest and quietly sat down.

Soon I realized to my dismay, that my fellow passengers were all ladies and I was the only male in the compartment. I felt extremely embarrassed and out of place. The Mother continued to remain covered up as before and was absolutely motionless. The impression of my first darshan kept my mind fully absorbed. Barring the noise of the running train, there was complete silence. Concluding that discretion was the better part of valor, I packed up my bedding and prepared myself for a change of compartment.

Meanwhile, I noticed that the Mother had uncovered her face and was sitting on her berth, tenderly looking at me. The train stopped at a wayside station and I tried to leave the compartment. However, the Mother would not let me go. Gently she asked me, "Where are you going?" Instead of replying to her question, I simply apologized to her for my trespass into a ladies compartment. She uttered two words in East Bengali dialect offering me a seat beside her. I gratefully accepted the kindly gesture and was thrilled with a peculiar sensation of love, peace, and joy. The Delhi Express moved on slowly. Sitting so close to the Mother, I had the delightful feeling that I was being caressed by my own mother. It was a unique experience indeed! The Mother's very presence inhibited speech. For some time there was no exchange of words between us until she broke the silence with several questions of a personal nature, and then we talked on various subjects, which did not include religion or spirituality.

The Mother asked me whether my people would expect me in Calcutta on the morrow. I said, "No Mother". "That's very good!" observed she. I failed to understand the implication of such a remark. Her second question was: "Is anyone coming to meet you at the Railway Station?" I said, "No." The Mother repeated her first remark, "That's very good!" I was unpleasantly surprised, because a repetition of the same remark seemed to confirm her apparently unsympathetic attitude. A mother who alternately attracts and repels seemed an enigma to me. Indeed, her "That's very good!" remained a mystery to me for the time being. Within a few minutes, however, I discovered that it had a deep significance for my future life.

Teachings of Anandamayi Ma

Her public utterances seem to teach a kind of absolute theism, i.e. only God exists, that all names and forms are His names and forms.

Vah he hai (He/That only is) 

That He is identical with the Supreme Essence of everything (Atma - Soul). She often said

exposition of God is the only exposition, everything else is futility and pain. Anandamayi Ma stated that God was self revealed, and the religious practices were only a means to remove the veil of ignorance that concealed Him from the devotee.   

The central theme of all her words and expressions is this Life and Religion are one. All that we do to maintain our life, our everyday work and play, all our attempts to earn a living, should be done with sincerity, love and devotion. with a firm conviction that true living means virtually perfecting one's spiritual existence in tune with the universe. To bring about this synthesis, religious culture should be made as natural and easy as taking our food and drink when we are hungry and thirsty.

Sri Sri Anandamayi Ma

She explained that the way to realize God was to become restless for Him (His Revelation). She accepted traditional modes of worship as well as philosophical enquiry. She encouraged us to follow our Gurus/religions instructions, or else to take whichever name of God was most appealing to our hearts and mind and call out Him with it constantly and unceasingly.            
Anadamayi Ma says

With earnestness, love and goodwill carry out life’s everyday duties and try to elevate yourself step by step. In all human activities let there be a live contact with the Divine and you will not have to leave off anything. Your work will then be done well and you will be on the right track to find the Master.

She did not however ask everyone to become a renunciate, and instructed householders that they could draw close to God whilst maintaining a family life by seeing God's presence in their family members and serving Him in that manner, then by devoting free time to worship and meditation.She often requested all householders set aside a fixed daily time time reserved exclusively for divine contemplation even if it for five or fifteen minutes to start.
She says

If you cannot do anything else, at least morning and evening at the appointed time, lay down your body, mind and life before Him in salutation and surrender, and think of Him just a little

Lose yourself altogether when bowing down to God with a single-minded devotion and you will obtain joy and power in proportion.

In his Autobiography of Yogi, Paramhansa Yogananda wrote about Aanadamayi Ma, his meeting with Her is recounted in the chapter titled "The Bengali 'Joy-Permeated Mother'" where Anandamayi Ma explains her background :

"Father, there is little to tell." She spread her graceful hands in a deprecatory gesture. "My consciousness has never associated itself with this temporary body. Before I came on this earth, Father, I was the same. As a little girl, I was the same. I grew into womanhood, but still I was the same. When the family in which I had been born made arrangements to have this body married, 'I was the same... And, Father, in front of you now, I am the same. Ever afterward, though the dance of creation change around me in the hall of eternity, I shall be the same."
